Sports

The extensive grounds offer facilities for a wide range of sporting activities.

A variety of sporting skills are taught, competition encouraged, and recognised awards for sporting achievements are regularly gained.

The focus in the Infant Department is on agility, balance and co-ordination. This is done through dance, gymnastics, swimming and fun games. In the Junior Department team games are introduced such as tag rugby, football, uni –hockey, hockey, netball, cricket and rounders. Pupils take part in fixtures against other schools and internally in inter-house competitions. Junior pupils also play short tennis and take part in the English Amateur Athletics Award Scheme.

Senior pupils cover the same sports as the Juniors but are taught more advanced skills, techniques and tactics. They also compete against other schools and enjoy inter-house competitions. They get the opportunity to take part in outdoor pursuits, with moorland walking within the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and during the School’s annual ski trip.

Although the pupils are very competitive, our emphasis is on enjoyment and having the opportunity to compete representing their school or house.

Matches against other local schools have introduced a further element of friendly competition.
